Island Health Nursing Support Services (NSS) assists parents and caregivers with children who have special health care needs. They facilitate safe, consistent care and appropriate health supports. NSS is delivered by Island Health and is available to children and youth in B.C. from birth to 19 years old who require specialized nursing services.
A child can be referred to NSS by their physician. When NSS Coordinators receive referrals they complete a nursing assessment. If the child is eligible for NSS, the Coordinator works with the child, family and other involved care providers to develop a plan to determine the most appropriate way to provide the nursing care.
